PPA TO ENFORCE TNC PROHIBITION
In a statement announced on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, the Philadelphia Parking Authority’s (PPA) Deputy Executive Director Corinne O’Connor said “While we understand that TNC services (Uber-X and Lyft) are very popular with the public and many elected officials want to see them continue, with the expiration of Act 85 of 2016, TNC (transportation network company) service is now illegal for point-to-point service in the City of Philadelphia and the PPA must follow the provisions of the law. As a result, PPA provided notice that beginning on October 7, 2016, TNC service in Philadelphia is subject to enforcement action.
Also, on October 6, 2016, the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas entered an injunction against TNC companies like Uber-X and Lyft. The injunction order prohibits these companies from operating within Philadelphia. The court determined that those services are unconstitutional and violate state laws and local ordinances (download Order here). The PPA will comply with all lawful orders of the court.
