In an effort to thwart terrorism activity in Philadelphia, employees at the Philadelphia Parking Authority have undergone training on how to spot potential threats to our community.
The Philadelphia Police Department and Homeland Security has teamed with the Parking Authority to train hundreds of Parking Enforcement Officers (PEO’s) on spotting and reporting suspicious activity while on their daily beats.
Vincent J. Fenerty, Jr., the Executive Director of the PPA, had a conversation with the man in charge of Homeland Security in Philadelphia, Deputy Police Commissioner Stephen Johnson.
Johnson stated that, “Educating Parking Authority employees on potential threats makes sense. I don’t see this as being difficult. I see this as having 500 fresh sets of eyes out there that will assist us resolving some of our difficulties.”
The PEO’s were happy to receive the training and have been using their new techniques to insure public safety everyday.
Johnson also stated that there are certain circumstances to watch out for, including sagging cars, smoking cars, and cars parked illegally near building entrances.
Parking Authority employees work throughout the city patrolling streets, at Authority parking lots, and at Philadelphia International Airport, making their presence an invaluable asset to the City in its fight against terrorism.
